Christmas is over

I can't believe I'm at a point where relief rushes all over me when Christmas is over. And if one more person calles it "Xmas" I'm gonna have to hurt them. Since when did Christ change his name to "X", perhaps I could stand for Cmas , that would be ok with me. In this age of trying to make everything short, I would understand. I never made a penny on my Red Kettle for Salvation Army, I feel bad about it, but atleast I tried to help. I have gotten some really nice feedback from my aidpage blog, where I have helped a few people with links and information. That made me feel great. My kids had a descent Christmas, and didn't act like selfish little monsters, but like the awesome adults they will one day be. I am going to try harder at everything I do, this is my newyears resolution. I give 90 percent to my children, I'm shoot for 110 in the future, and that goes for everything. I'm tired all the time which I know somehow inside that it's a health problem, that I can't deal with because I don't have health insurance. So for now i will have to deal with it. Pray for me!! I need a job, and not just any job, a sit down, 40hour per week, with benefits job. Sit down , because of my back. Back no good LOL Im fallin apart. Anyways I have babbled enough. Have a happy New Year!

Are we gonna make it? Can I keep the faith?

Hi there, I'm trying to keep the faith! Maybe I just need to get it out. I don't know. But here we are. I've been blessed by God. Me and my family have everything we need and then some. Im still unemployed yet "slighty" hopeful. My husband started a fulltime job 2 weeks ago, and we have been so excited. The thought of paying the rent on time, was a good feeling, and paying all of the electric bill, not just half and then begging for an extention. It was gonna be awesome. Then we got the phone call. They have no work for my husband this week. WHAT!!!?? ummm thought ya said this was a full time job? OMG! Can they do that?!! WTH! OK, Im done freaking out, and I have spent most of time "talking my husband down" . Be patient I say, it will pick up next week. We are used to this after all. It would have been wierd to pay all the bills, LOL. So we should be fine. Just hoping and praying its not the same thing next week. The worst of all, is, thats he's here with me damnit! hehe not really, but I thought that would be funny. Anyways , I feel better now, at least I got that off my chest. God Bless, I pray everyone can pay their bills this month. And BTW don't tell me to sell my laptop, cuz thats blasphemy, and my wireless is borrowed from a generous neighbor. I have no cable TV, my phone is $13 a month, and we are on foodstamps. Everything I could have pawned, is already owned by the pawnshop. My car is fixen to break down, its held together with clamps, screws, and sticky red glue stuff. But ya know what, we are really fine. Haha guess I wasnt done yet, but now I am. LOL

layed off!

Whether I was layed off or fired, maybe not the same thing but same consequences. Except being fired, as I was, puts a bigger load on my shoulders. Its my fault. And I have to face the fact that my pride came before my children, and that just wont do. I have asked for forgiveness, but in my mind, for no amount money should I put up with abuse, imitimidation, or anything along those lines, in the work place. So my guilt wont go that deap, as I was being mistreated. So that said, we are so broke!!! Omg, here we are again. Everything we own is lost to the pawnshop. Food stamps were reduced because of my job, now We have to wait a month to get them back up. What do we do in the mean time. And where are the "emergency foodstamps" I hear so much about. GOOD NEWS! My husband landed a job, he starts on Tuesday! Question, where will the gas money come from? How will we pay for his perscriptions until his first check. He takes 5 perscriptions everyday, if he doesnt have them he will die point blank , end of story. I cant pawn this laptop , cuz its messed up and no one will take it. I cant get a title loan on my car, cuz I cant find my title. I pray and have faith we will make it. Please pray for us!! we are the Americans that need help! Sincerely, broke like a joke

I feel like ranting, and its my blog, so there

I just feel like ranting. I have been so worried. I finally got my ear surgery, on my left ear. Im working again, Im a waitress. My job is actually up in the air, but thats another story. What I want to rant about , is the homeless and mentally ill. I work overnight, cant say the name of where I work, I could get in trouble for that. It doesnt matter, Im a waitress, in an area with a lot of homeless, mentally ill, and people addicted to drugs. A lot of them wonder into my work wanting help, or fishing for something free, which i find understandable. People say "Why dont they get a job!" They tell me I work hard for my money , and lets face it, I can barely pay my bills. COME ON PEOPLE! This is America, and with internet, cable, and the media, you people should be so much better informed about our homeless. The majority are mentally ill, have no family, and the government has just put them out on their own, more than likely because of the insurance crisis. They have no recourse or should I say "resource" but to beg , borrow , and steal. What else can they do? Do you have an answer? I don't. Unless our Government does something for the mentally ill, homeless people, it will never end. The next time you run into someone, who is definately homeless and mentally ill. It will be obviouse, believe me. Give'm a couple bucks. The price of a cup of coffee, can brighten their day. Im not saying endanger yourself. After all, they are mentally ill. You have to be carefull. But have a heart, they cannot help the situation they are in, and have swept under the rug, by our government. And thats all I have to say about that.

an Email from the white house

This is an email from the white house, you can get these just for signing up, I was going to unsubscribe, but then I read this, and I soooo need health insurance. This I think would be a wonderful thing. I could get my back fixed, and my husband couldn't finally have a good doctor to treat his CHF. Though I really don't believe it will happen, it could.

Dear Friend,

As you read this, we are closer than ever to passing comprehensive health insurance reform that benefits American families and small businesses. Despite all the back and forth in the news right now, it is important to understand just how far we've come in this challenging process.

That's why I'm holding a press conference tonight at 8pm ET, and writing to let everyone know where we are, what's ahead, and why health insurance reform is so important.

Let me be clear: although Congress is still debating parts of the legislation we have achieved critical consensus on several key areas:

If you already have health insurance: reform will provide you with more security and stability. It will limit your own out of pocket costs and prevent your insurance company from dropping your coverage if you get too sick. You'll also have affordable insurance options if you lose or change your job. And it will cover preventive care like check-ups and mammograms that save lives and money.

If you don't have health insurance: you will finally have guaranteed access to quality, affordable health care, and you can choose the plan that best suits your family's needs. And no insurance company will be allowed to deny you coverage because of a pre-existing medical condition.

Now, I realize that the last few miles of any race are the hardest to run, but we can't stop now. There's no dispute about it: we cannot control our long-term fiscal health as a nation without health insurance reform. American families and small businesses understand that the health insurance status quo is taking away those things that they value most about health care. The stability and security that comes with knowing that you can get the treatment you need, when you need it. Without reform, we are consigning our children to a future of skyrocketing premiums and crushing deficits.

We have to seize this opportunity and pass health insurance reform this year. You can help by forwarding this email to your family and friends and letting them know what's at stake in this debate.

Thank you,
Barack Obama

P.S. Tune in to tonight's press conference on health insurance reform at 8pm ET on WhiteHouse.gov.

A real Charity, and real Patriots!!!

North Platte Canteen

http://www.youtube.com/user/MilitaryMinistry

quote: "When the "Greatest Generation" passed through North Platte, Nebraska during WWII, they got a hug and a handshake, homemade cakes and cookies, and a moment of respite and prayer provided by thousand... "

this video has touched me soooo much! I had to share it. God bless our soldiers, who need us most of all!

Did I help anyone?

Well...yes I did. But not like I wanted. But I did. And I was helped as well. I never ended up going to the food bank. Because my neighbor bought my grocieries for the week! The Lord is working a lot, in my house, I dont have the time to go into everything he has done for us. But everytime the devil starts kicking us, the Lord grabs his foot. LOL I love it! I do wish I had volunteered at the food bank. But that will come in time. And I have tried everyday, to do something nice for someone and help out those in need. I do have something thats bothering me though. ok, here goes....

There is a lady that walks the streets where I live, well not just one, but this one I see all the time. I know for a fact that she is struggling with mental problems, Im not possitive she's homeless, but probably is. My problem, Im affraid to approach her. Does this fear come from God, or the other guy? I guess I just have to ask the Lord that question. If you struggle with something similar, ask the Lord, you'll get your answer, when he thinks you're ready. So I'm waiting for my answer, and we'll see. God Bless you all! and Happy Easter!

I want to help, but what can I do?

I really do! I want to help my fellow Americans. Everyone is struggling. I will probably have to go to the food bank on monday, as our income tax is all gone, and my foodstamps still haven't been recertified. And here we are, right back in the same place we were a month ago. But I thank God everyday for our lives! our children! and for everything. Its been since August that my husband and I have both been unemployed. And we are still floating! Don't ask me how, I couldn't tell you, except the Lord does supply us with everything we need, and then some. Ok, I am totally way off subject.

Ok, when I go to the food bank, I am going to ask to volunteer. I have thought about but never done it. I think I would probably really enjoy myself, and I would feel like I'm giving something back. I saw a news story the other day, about people volunteering, to pad their resume. Huh? How about to be human? There I go being judgemental. Sorry, but I'm a sinner like the rest.

This is my challenge to everyone(if anyone) who reads this. Sometime soon, help someone that you don't know. At the grociery store, that elderly woman in front of you that is going so slow, don't be a jerk to her. That person that cuts you off in traffic, pray for'm instead of cussin them. I am trying to do these things myself. And I hope that it will make me a better person. And perhaps I will change someones life for the better, if even for just a minute. I will try to post my experiences here. God Bless you all and God Bless America, we need it!

FBI Raid? Angel Food Ministries?

When does the corruption END!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

FBI raid on Ga-based food charity raises questions
By DIONNE WALKER Associated Press Writer The Associated Press
Friday, March 6, 2009 3:31 AM EST

The offices of Angel Food Ministries in Monroe, Ga., are shown Thursday, March 5,...

For more than a decade, Angel Food Ministries seemed like a godsend for families who purchased its low-cost food boxes and the churches that shared millions in revenue for distributing the goods.

It became an economic juggernaut in the faith community, employing hundreds, feeding thousands a month and pouring $19 million into its network of more than 5,000 host churches in 35 states.

Now, a lawsuit coupled with an FBI raid at the group's headquarters has raised accusations of financial mismanagement at the nonprofit. The raid and ensuing FBI investigation have left congregations and church leaders weighing whether to cut their ties to the high-profile charity after the reported disclosure that six-figure salaries were paid to its founders.

"We get signed up and I start hearing this," said the Rev. Chad Massey, whose Unadilla First Baptist Church in central Georgia planned to place its first Angel Food order this month. "It's kind of hard to know what to do."

FBI officials haven't disclosed the nature of the investigation surrounding the ministry.

Angel Food has acknowledged that a grand jury investigation is looking into what it called "alleged financial irregularities" involving unspecified individuals — but not the ministry itself.

Meanwhile, lawsuits filed by Angel Food Ministries board members and former employees accuse Angel Food leadership of using the non-denominational nonprofit as a moneymaking venture.

The Rev. Joseph Wingo and wife Linda founded the ministry in 1994 to help 34 families hurt by plant closings in the manufacturing town of Monroe, about 45 miles east of Atlanta.

Since then, Angel Food Ministries has grown to hundreds of workers supplying food for anti-poverty programs at more than 5,000 churches spanning several denominations. There are 473 distribution centers listed in Georgia and more than 1,400 concentrated in Texas, Missouri, Tennessee and Pennsylvania.

All told, the ministry says it serves more than 500,000 families a month. It has no plans to interrupt food delivery.

Angel Food Ministries - Save money on food

I posted this on my other blog at Aidpage, but I think it's important to post these things as much as possible, in order to get the word out. So here ya go.

Angel Food Ministries
Laura14 Posted by Laura14

I have been hearing a lot from neighbors and internet sites about Angel Food Ministries lately, so I thought I would share the info with everyone. This is quite interesting and could save us all a little money. The following information is straight from their website

http://www.angelfoodministries.com/about/

Everyone Qualifies

There are no qualifications, minimums, income restrictions, or applications.Everyone is encouraged to participate. Some churches even encourage participants to apply the money they saved to help someone else in need.

What is Angel Food Ministries?

Angel Food Ministries is a non-profit, non-denominational organization dedicated to providing grocery relief and financial support to communities throughout the United States. The program began in 1994 with 34 families in Monroe, Georgia (between Atlanta and Athens), and has grown to serve hundreds of thousands of families every month across 35 states. Angel Food Ministries crosses denominational lines and has spread the good news of the gospel of Christ through salvation tracts that are placed in each food order.

Blessings by the box
Angel Food is available in a quantity that can fit into a medium-sized box at $30 per unit. Each month's menu is different than the previous month and consists of both fresh and frozen items with an average retail value of approximately $60. Comparison shopping has been done across the country in various communities using a wide range of retail grocery stores and has resulted in the same food items costing from between $42 and $78.

Generally, one unit of food assists in feeding a family of four for about one week or a single senior citizen for almost a month. The food is all the same high quality one could purchase at a grocery store. There are no second-hand items, no damaged or out-dated goods, no dented cans without labels, no day-old breads and no produce that is almost too ripe.

Also offered are specialty boxes such as steaks, chicken and pork. Many participants in this bonus program appreciate the expanded choices. Additionally, there is no limit to the number of units or bonus foods an individual can receive, and there are no applications to complete or qualifications to which participants must adhere. Angel Food Ministries also participates in the U.S. Food Stamp program, using the Off-Line Food Stamp Voucher system.

It's both a Bargain and a Blessing!

Getting Assistance in Texas

Ok, I am not here to complain about the assistance programs in Texas, by the way, my husband lived through his Parkland visit, infact, he ended up with a really good doctor, which is more than I can say for most. Anyways, back on my subject, the assistance programs (i.e. food, utilities, jobs..etc.) in Texas are really a lot better than most places. But they are extremely time consuming, and don't consider that people need help now. The Department of Human Services is bogged down because of the recession. Which is probably the case every where. And the Department of Vocational Rehab. is bogged down as well. So many people these days suffer from disabilities, that could be overcome, if they had insurance.
I suffer from Degenerative Disk Disease, I have gone through a lot of pain for 20 years now! Did you know that if I had about $3000 dollars or good insurance, I could have had surgery years ago, and lived a greatly improved life. When I was 34 I started to lose my hearing, I now know that it was because of Ottoschlerosis , which was possibly caused by the pain pills I took for 9mths one year when my back was really bad. Now I have finally learned about DARS, which no one ever told me about! They said, 4 mths ago, they would pay for my ear surgery in order to get me back to work. As for my back and my problems sitting, "I can sit on a pillow". I really can't complain, without them I could be looking at a life without sound. I just wish there was more help for people like me. I hope this new Presidential administration does something about the "healthcare crisis" soon. I feel like I have lost 20 years of a life I wish I had! Time I could have been playing with my kids, going camping, enjoying sports, etc.
Enough about me, if you are having trouble finding assistance, let me know, no matter the state you live in. I will do my best to help. My other blog is here at Aidpage. I also have links for finding assistance an living an affordable life at InXpensive Living.
God Bless Everyone, Say a Prayer for America! Laura

Got Health Insurance?

Thank God 2008 is over! I don't even want to mention it again. Here we are the first day of the new year, and we had to call ambulance for my husband, so he could go to the hospital and be torchered by the Parkland Public Health System!!!!!!! The EMT's on the ambulance saved him from having a heart attack, by spraying nitro under his tongue. But Parkland Hospital, the County Hospital, is going to give him a heart attack! They don't clean the rooms unless there are puddles of blood. Unless of course you have insurance other than theirs or medicaid. You have to have fancy smancy insurance in order to get good care. I am not just basing this on my husband. I know about 5 people who have been hospitalized there. Two I'm sure would have died if they stayed. One was my mother, who was taken there by ambulance, we never found out what was wrong with her, but she was in Parkland Hospital for 21 days. The first week she had no bodily function, just layed in the bed thrashing. I won't go into the detail, but they gave her a heart attack, while she was in the hospital. The Dr , more or less admitted it, then she went to the ICU, they are actually good people in there. They make you all better, so that you can go back to the floor and let the incompetent people not tend to you. While in the ICU, my mom started regaining her bodily function, and returning to almost normal. But once she was on the floor again, out of the ICU. It seemed she would get worse. She left Against Medical Advise 7 days out of the ICU. She sat up in her bed and told them what for! Yeah Mom! She used her own wheel chair and got the heck out of there. She said if she had stayed they would have surely killed her. She if fine today, probably because she left.

I had a friend that went to the ER at Parkland, because she was 8 1/2 months pregnant and having menstrual bleeding. They told her it was nothing go home. The next day she went to her regular prenatal clinic visit, and they rushed her back to Parkland Memorial in an ambulance because her placenta was splitting in half and her and her baby were fixing to die. The clinic called and griped out the people in the ER that sent her home, well the next day, after her emergency C section, a nurse came in her room and told her that she almost killed her own baby and herself from doing too much while she was pregnant. I really want to change the name of this blog to "I HATE PARKLAND MEMORIAL HOSPITAL!"

People say "It must be a great hospital, that's where they took Kennedy!" , Hello! Kennedy Died! , I know this isn't a good example , as his skull was in his wifes hands. But I guess I have expressed my issue. Parkland Hospital is the most horrible hospital I personally and people I know have ever experience. If you have good insurance, I am here to warn you, go somewhere else! But then again, you would probably be treated alright, cuz you got insurance.
